Tellscreen

Record your screen for Claude Code, Codex or Cursor (2026)

Tellscreen turns a screen recording into a prompt for Claude Code, Codex or Cursor: talk through what should change, and get a numbered change list with your words and a screenshot of each moment.

Sending an AI the video file itself works badly. Most coding agents can't play video, and the ones that can sample a few frames that rarely line up with "this button here". Tellscreen looks at your screen at the moment you said each thing, so every change arrives with the picture that explains it.

On your Mac or PC: the Tellscreen app

Download Tellscreen for Mac or Windows. Press ⌥⇧R (Alt+Shift+R) in any app, show what should change and say it, and press it again: the change list is on your clipboard. ⌥⇧D (Alt+Shift+D) lets you draw on the screen while you record.

On first launch the app adds the Tellscreen plugin to Claude Code and the skill to Codex, so the steps below are done for you. When either asks for a recording, the app records it.

In the browser

  1. Open tellscreen.com/?for=ai, choose what to share, and talk through what should change.
  2. Press Stop. The change list is written in about the time it took you to talk, and the prompt is copied to your clipboard.
  3. Paste it into your agent. Every screenshot in it is a link the agent can open.

On any video's page, Copy prompt for your AI does the same at any time, and Copy as checklist gives a Markdown list for a GitHub issue, Linear or Jira.

In Claude Code: a Record screen button

Install the Tellscreen plugin. At the Claude Code prompt:

/plugin install tellscreen --marketplace https://tellscreen.com/claude/marketplace.json

A Record screen button then sits above your prompt, and /record does the same. Press it, record in the Tellscreen app (or the browser tab that opens if you don't have the app), press Stop, and the change list is filled into your prompt box, ready to send. Hide the button from the band if you'd rather keep only /record.

The plugin also adds a skill, so asking Claude "let me show you on screen" starts a recording too.

In Codex, or any agent that reads skills

Install the skill once:

mkdir -p ~/.agents/skills/tellscreen && curl -fsSL https://tellscreen.com/skill.md -o ~/.agents/skills/tellscreen/SKILL.md

For Claude Code without the plugin, use ~/.claude/skills/tellscreen/SKILL.md instead. Then say "record my screen" or paste a Tellscreen link: the agent opens the recorder, waits, and works from the change list.

In any terminal

sh -c "$(curl -fsSL https://tellscreen.com/rec.sh)"

It opens the recorder, waits for you to press Stop, and prints the prompt. Add | pbcopy on a Mac to send it straight to the clipboard.

Draw while you record: the Chrome extension

The extension was submitted to the Chrome Web Store on 17 October 2026 and is in Google's review. Until it is listed, download it, unzip it, open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked.

  • Pen, highlighter, arrow and box over any page, in five colors. Drawings fade after a few seconds, or stay until you clear them.
  • A spotlight follows your cursor and every click ripples, so viewers and the AI can see where you point.
  • Hold Alt (Option on a Mac) and drag to draw without leaving the page; Alt+Shift+D turns full drawing on and off, Esc stops.
  • Ctrl+Shift+9 (Command+Shift+9 on a Mac) opens a recording for your AI from any app while Chrome is running.

What the agent gets

The prompt starts with a summary, then one section per change. This one is from a 47-second review of this site's own pricing page, as Tellscreen wrote it:

### 4. Change the Pro upgrade button label to "Start Pro"
- Type: copy, high priority, at 0:35
- Where: Pricing page, Pro card, red "Upgrade to Pro" button
- Said: "That one is urgent. The copy is wrong."
- Change: The red button in the Pro card currently says "Upgrade to Pro". Change its label to "Start Pro". Keep the button's style and position.
- Done when: The Pro card's red button reads "Start Pro" and nothing else in the card is changed.
- Screenshot: https://tellscreen.com/v/<id>/frame.jpg?t=32.8

It ends with open questions the recording left unclear and the full transcript with times. Private videos get links that carry their own key, so the agent can open the screenshots without signing in.
