Tellscreen vs Loom (October 2026)
Checked and updated
Loom's free Starter plan allows 25 videos per person, 5 minutes each, at up to 720p, and its videos can't be downloaded. Tellscreen is free with no cap on the number of videos, records up to 4 hours in a browser tab with nothing to install, and includes the transcript, AI summary, chapters and an MP4 download on every video.
Tellscreen is ours, so read this with that in mind. Every Loom fact below comes from Loom's own pricing page or Atlassian's Loom help centre, checked on 14 October 2026, and the links are at the bottom.

Where Loom is the better choice
- Your team lives in Jira and Confluence. Loom is part of Atlassian, records straight into Confluence pages, and comes bundled in Atlassian's Teamwork Collection with Jira, Confluence and Rovo.
- You need workspaces, roles and admin controls. Loom has team workspaces, Creator and Viewer roles, and Enterprise controls such as turning off downloads across the workspace. Tellscreen has none of that: your videos belong to your browser, and a private library link opens them on another device.
- You record on a phone. Loom has iOS and Android apps. On a phone, Tellscreen can record your camera, but phone browsers can't share the screen.
- You want editing beyond a trim. Loom Business + AI removes filler words and silences and edits by transcript. Tellscreen trims the start and end, and that's all.
Where Tellscreen is the better choice
- You want to keep your videos. Loom's free plan can't download anything, and paid downloads leave out CTAs, chapters and captions. Tellscreen gives everyone an MP4 with the camera bubble in the picture, and you can turn downloads off for viewers.
- Your videos run longer than 5 minutes, or there are more than 25 of them. Tellscreen has no video count and records up to 4 hours.
- Summaries and chapters without a $24 seat. Tellscreen writes the title, summary, key points and chapters for every video, and each point links to the moment it was said.
- Nothing to install. Tellscreen records from the web page. Loom needs its Chrome extension or desktop app, and its desktop app runs on Mac and Windows only.
- AI agents can watch it. Every Tellscreen link has a version Claude, ChatGPT and other agents can read: the transcript and a still of any moment. See how to let an AI watch a screen recording.
- Passwords on a free video. Loom lists password-protected videos on Business and above. On Tellscreen any video can have one.
Moving your Loom videos over
Loom has no bulk export: a request for one has sat at "Gathering Interest" on Atlassian's public tracker since July 2025, and admins download videos one at a time. On a Business plan, open each video, click the three-dot menu above it and choose Download. Then drop the MP4 files onto your Tellscreen library; each one gets its own link, transcript and summary. The full steps, including what Loom leaves out of the file, are in how to download your Loom videos.
