Download Tellscreen for Mac and Windows (October 2026)
Checked and updated
Tellscreen for Mac and Windows records your whole screen from any app: press Alt+Shift+R (⌥⇧R on a Mac), show what should change and say it, press it again, and the change list is on your clipboard.
It sits in your menu bar (the system tray on Windows) and uses the same account-free library and plans as the website.
What it does
- Record from anywhere. ⌥⇧R (Alt+Shift+R) starts and stops a recording of the screen your pointer is on, with your microphone. A small control bar floats at the top; it stays out of the recording.
- Draw on the screen. ⌥⇧D (Alt+Shift+D) while recording turns on the pen, arrow, box and highlighter; drawings fade after a few seconds, Esc stops drawing. A spotlight follows your pointer, so viewers and the AI see where you point.
- The change list on your clipboard. When you stop, Tellscreen writes the change list, with a screenshot of each moment, and copies it. Paste it into Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. Turn on Paste automatically and it is pasted into the app you are using.
- Claude Code and Codex, set up for you. On first launch it installs the Tellscreen plugin for Claude Code (a Record screen button above your prompt) and the Tellscreen skill for Codex. When either asks for a recording, the app records it and the change list goes straight back to them.
- Your videos stay on tellscreen.com, with a share link, transcript, summary and download, like a recording made in the browser.
Opening it the first time
Mac. Open the DMG and drag Tellscreen to Applications, then open it. Tellscreen is not from the App Store yet, so macOS may say it can't verify the developer: open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway. When asked, allow Screen & System Audio Recording and Microphone, then quit and reopen Tellscreen once (macOS needs that after screen recording is allowed).
Windows. Run the installer. If SmartScreen says it protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway. Tellscreen installs for your user only and starts in the system tray, by the clock.
Requirements
macOS 12 or later on Apple silicon or Intel, or 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. An internet connection: recordings upload while you record.
Prefer not to install anything? Record in the browser instead, or use the Chrome extension to draw on pages while you record.
